Can anyone tell me how to go about repossessing something that is locked in their backyard?

These people are on an ego trip and have put a chain with a padlock on their gate. We have ask the law for assistist and they won't get involved and a repo man said that if we cut the lock it is breaking and entering and we could get arrested. By the way, this is in the state of Alabama. They have mentioned that they are filing bankrupcy.
