Can I sue or take to court aperson who bought a puppy from me and then returned it. I?

I said I would take the puppy back but would keep a hundred dollars for a security deposit. Well his check came back for NSF. Can I still take him to court for the deposit? I have to readvertise in the paper and feed this puppy till I sell it again.
